Thinking About Suicide?Teens

Thinking About Suicide?
If you are contemplating suicide or if thoughts of killing
yourself are in your mind constantly, get help. Suicide is a very permanent answer to what is probably a temporary problem. Your negative feelings may not seem temporary, but hang on. Help is available so that you can face your problems and go forward to enjoy life. (Zondervon’s Youthwalk Devotional Bible “Hot Topic”)

Life Is Serious - Talk About It!
Suicide is NOT an act of bravery. The courageous thing to
do is to face your problems and work them out. Suicide is NOT a final “Well I’ll show them”. Who is it that really pays the ultimate price? YOU are. YOU are putting your eternal life into the hands of a living God who is sovereign and deals with us on a personal basis.

Are you REALLY ready to meet your maker face to face? God has a plan for your life and suicide is NOT part of it. Discuss things that bother you. If you do not agree with
your parents or friends over certain issues discuss this with them.

“Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” - Colossians 3:13

Even tell your parents if you are having thoughts of ending your life. No matter what the other issues are, this will take priority over everything. Sometimes your parents may be attempting to discipline using “tough love” but may not realize how you as a teenager are misunderstanding their terms. Parents are not perfect give them some slack. If you want to be treated as an adult try to carry on a conversation as a mature person.

There Are Alternatives
Get out of the house and go for a walk. If you are in an abusive situation at home you CAN find help. Meet with a School Counselor or Youth Pastor. You do not even
have to attend the school or go to a church service. There ARE people who care and will do so confidentially.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU THAT CANNOT BE OVERCOME by talking about your problem. You’d be surprised by the people that YOU ALREADY KNOW who have had these same thoughts and HAVE OVERCOME them. There ARE people who have had suicidal thoughts and have openly discussed these thoughts and overcome this
troublesome time in their lives and have grown to live out there lives successfully and happily.

ASK JESUS INTO YOUR HEART or if you are already a Christian, ask him to help you with a new commitment in your Christian Walk.

“Seek those things which are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” - Colossians 3:1,2

Tell someone about decision and your victory in overcoming these dark thoughts. Pray and seek prayer. Read the Word of God. Join a Bible believing Youth Group.

Dark Thoughts
Thoughts are a lot like birds. Birds fly over our heads all day long and there may be nothing we can do about that but we DO NOT have to let some pesky little bird build a nest right on top of our head!

Dark thoughts are sometimes just part of human nature but you do not have to dwell on them. So many video games are popular today where you aim and shoot the bad guys. Think of these dark thoughts as the bad guys and zap these thoughts as soon as they come into your head. Then move onto occupying your mind with something positive.

A steady diet of dark brooding music can take its toll on you mentally as well. Music has it’s own spiritual element. That's why people become so “into their music” often trying to fill a spiritual void in their own lives. Many music artists have proven time and again that they too can succumb to their own dark thoughts and lifestyles.

Any amount of poison taken on a regular basis will eventually harm you to a certain degree. We are not condemning music here but merely saying to examine what these songs are preaching to you and to try not to dwell on the worst possible suggestions that someone has to give to you.
